Guest post Joe Schmidt Operations Supervisor

Good evening fellow associates.

I first want to convey how proud I am to be associated with so many members of our company that have spoken out with unyielding support for Mr. Arthur T. Demoulas.  Thanks to all of you for doing what is right by our company.

I want to take a few moments to share some of my personal thoughts with all of you.  I know that I do not have to tell anyone how much passion that I have for our great company and how much I admire Mr. Arthur T. Demoulas and his father Mr. T.A. Demoulas.  These two gentlemen are partially responsible for who I am as a person today, something that I am eternally grateful for.  I am a product of their great business model which focuses on each and every associate’s personal and professional development.  Our business model which includes a focus on associate growth should never change, as it has proven to be financially successfully.  On a personal level, my family and my work are equally important to me, which like most of you, is why I am so deeply vested in the outcome of our conflict.  Since early July, it has been made clear that a select few are trying to hurt our company, trying to hurt our family.  Our company has been built by people working together, not by people working in dissension.  The board has made the decision to work apart.

Every day I realize how fortunate I am to be a part of this great team of dedicated people, who conduct yourselves with pride, professionalism, and respect.  Having the opportunity to work directly with so many of you, who are the future of this great company, provides me with great personal satisfaction.  Watching people develop and achieve their goals is what our company is all about.  There is a cohesiveness among all of us which makes our company a special place to work.  Our cohesiveness and our success starts with Mr. Arthur T. Demoulas.  He is our boss, he sets the pace.

The reason our people work incredibly hard, is due to the loyalty that we all share for A.T.D.  Our president is a great businessman, professional, leader, and exceptional person.  There is no leader in our industry that commands a higher level of respect at work and in local communities.  The thought of replacing him in July was an insult to our company, our customers, and each one of us; on both a personal and professional level.  A.T.D.’s demand for excellence has guided each one of us, to work together, to build our company into what is without question the best supermarket in the nation.  We are fortunate to have A.T.D. leading our company and I stand with him.

I am sure that some people may not want to write about supporting A.T.D. out of fear of retribution.  The fact that any of our people would have to be concerned about speaking out in support of A.T.D. is an issue of great importance in itself, as it displays the level of fear the board has created.  The existing level of uneasiness in our people’s hearts and minds is a direct result of the current practices of the board.  For those of you that are hesitant to express your thoughts, I point out the words of the great Franklin Delano Roosevelt,

“this is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions today. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.”

Board of directors, it is important that you reflect upon how you want to be known as businessmen.  Do you wish to be remembered as someone whom contributed to the decline of a great company, a person who stood for personal gain?  Or do you wish to be remembered as a person who finally made a positive difference in the lives of so many hard working people?

Think carefully about your actions, your votes, and the effect that they will have on the so many hard working people of this great company.

Board of Directors, fully support our president and our leader Mr. Arthur T. Demoulas.

Thank you Mr. Arthur T. Demoulas for fighting for our company.

United We Stand In Lockstep With You.
