Guest Post from Tim Shea, Produce Manager

There is something truly special about Market Basket. We are much more than just a grocery store… We are a community, in any town or city we are in, we are a staple, and apart from providing groceries at a fair price that a struggling family can afford, we also serve the towns and cities we are in.

I have been with Market Basket since I was 16 at the old Bridge St. store. I started off as a bagger, and one day a couple months later I got asked if I wanted to go work in the produce department… And the rest, as they say, is history. I have been mentored through the years by many fine individuals and couldn’t be any prouder than I am to work for this great organization. We all respect upper management the way we do because they have all been in our shoes. Everybody, from Tom Trainor to Mike Maguire, all started as baggers like myself but have moved through the ranks to earn the positions they have today. I couldn’t imagine working for someone who hadn’t “walked the walk” like we all do.

I have been lucky over the last several years to participate in nearly every store opening. It is amazing the reception we get in the communities we go into, and the sense of pride felt by us associates. We spend months preparing the building for business and to see it in action is just an awesome feeling. I am never prouder of this company than when I see our great CEO, Arthur T. Demoulas, walking the store on grand opening day.

Arthur T. is such a great man to work for. He is a visionary in our industry and took the founding philosophies that his father, Telemachus Demoulas, laid down and put a modern twist on them that really sent our company into the stratosphere. To imagine this company without him is preposterous. I truly feel like he is the best boss to work for in America… Would anyone else in our company want to work for another man? I think we know the answer to that question: NO!

Thank you, Arthur T., for everything you have done for me over the years. We are all in this together. “One boss.. The only boss”

Well written, Timothy! I honestly don’t know how this BOD can sit there and see the support we have for our CEO without questioning the motives of ASD… Unless they too, have motives… Not really what a company is looking for in a BOD now, is it?

The respect we give the upper management is well earned, they have done the jobs we are doing. When they walk through the stores they recognize the associates with a simple nod or walk right up to you and ask you how your doing? They know the hard work we are performing because the have “walked the walk”. Tim your post is right on! Artie T’s values and “vision” are benefiting both customers and associates. Keep Artie T. as our CEO!!!
