Guest Post from Caleb Owens, Assistant Store Manager, Store 43

There is something special about the father son relationship that stirs emotions within us guys more so than any thing else. As I recently read the words of my own father unexpectedly appear on facebook I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride as I read his thoughts on this great company that both myself, my father and my grandfather all have worked so hard for to provide for our families. I also couldn’t help but to see the irony of the fact that I have grown up watching and learning from my father in this business and attempting to follow in his footsteps and that Arthur T. Demoulas must have done the same thing with his father. Just like me I bet Arthur remembers his first trip to a store to go open the safes and go down to the bakery to get a donut or to walk the store in the quiet early morning before anyone is there
And I bet just like me he felt that same feeling of admiration and pride that all little boys feel when they get to go to work with dad. I learned a lot of powerful lessons from my father over the years about hard work and responsibility and standing up for what is right. Arthur T. Demoulas learned from his father that this business is about people, its about loyalty, its about taking care of your employees, its about not gouging your customers, its about serving our customers, its about paying your employees well, its about helping them to save for retirement and mostly its about family. I have learned a lot from the different men that I have worked for throughout the years I have thought of many of them as “fathers” and they have helped to mold me into the manager that I am today. This company is unlike any other company that I have ever heard of, we are a family of stores and employees that have all worked together under the leadership of first T.A. and now under Arthur T. to accomplish great things. We all start at the bottom as baggers or clerks and work our way up through the ranks, we EARN our positions and we EARN our bonuses and we EARN our profit sharing. And Arthur t. Demoulas has EARNED our Respect and our Support. So please join with us and support this man as he fights the battle of his life against a man that unfortunately didn’t learn the lessons from his father that Arthur T. And I learned from our fathers. And hopefully just like when I worked at the store 42 grand opening with Arthur’s son, “little” T.A Demoulas by our side I hope that I get to walk a store with my son Anthony someday and carry on the family tradition! Who’s with me??!

I am with you, Caleb! One by one, the great leaders of this company are standing up and being heard! We will fight and protect the philosophies that have made us who we are, and to do that we have to stand beside the man that leads us, Arthur T. Demoulas.

  3. Absolutely!!!! I worked for your father in Haverhill #9. My oldest daughter did as well. Now my youngest daughter who is 17 works for the company in that very store in the dairy dept. And my husband is an electrician for L.C.E and services all the markets in the chain so we know 1st hand what it’s like to be a market basket family and to work for such a family oriented company! I have always told my girls that if you can get full time in this company, grab it with both hands and do not let it go. It’s a great company to work for and Mr. Arthur. T makes us all feel like family here. It’s a shame what the other side (Arthur.S) is trying to do to the company, to us and to his own “family”. My understanding growing up was that families should still together through thick and thin. Not tear each other apart. I stand behind you and everyone else in our market basket family to help keep us strong in the support for Artie. T!!!!

A very touching post Caleb. I am with you! I know you to be dedicated and passionate about your job. You worked hard to get to the position you have. I know that if ATD remains our CEO you WILL get the chance to become store director and be proud to take your own son on that morning walk through the store.
