Guest post, Chris Panogoulias Store Director Nashua

“Chris has been with our Company for 46 years and is our “Patriarch of Store Directors”.  Chris has managed many stores over the span of his career but his proudest moment was being the only Store Director to open the same store twice. Chris opened the original #43 and then the new bigger and expanded #43 this past June. Thank you for speaking out Chris.”

My name is Chris Panagoulias. Forty six years ago in July 1967,I went for an interview at our then headquarters in Chelmsford Ma. I was interviewed and hired by George DeMoulas the brother of T.A. DeMoulas and the father of Arthur S. Little did I know that would be the beginning of a career that would span four and a half decades! All I can say it’s been a hell of a ride.

In that time period I worked my way up from a $2.00 an hour grocery clerk to my current position of store manager. Over the years I witnessed our company grow from 10 stores when I started to the 71 stores we now have today. During the past year OUR BOSS Mr.D chose me to open the new Nashua 43. Mr. D gave me the unique opportunity of closing the old 43 the store that his dad T.A.D gave me to open back in 1989. This for me was truly an honor. I have tried my best to reward their trust in me with hard work and dedication to the one and only company I have ever worked for. I have been very fortunate over the years to have worked with many wonderful and respected people who have had a huge part in making our company what it today. I’m very proud to have been a very small part of it.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to hire young men and women who went on to become adults, got married and had children of their own whom I have hired and watched them become valued associates just like their parents were. for someone of my age in the back nine of his career (as my Asst Mgr Caleb Owens likes to remind of on a daily basis) the future of these young employees is of great concern to me. WITHOUT OUR BOSS Mr.D as our CEO I fear for the future of our company and all the employees of this great company. Mr.D has taken the vision of his father for our company and brought it into a new era to make us the industry leader that we are today.
Life’s a journey not a destination, and our journey with OUR BOSS has just begun.

So to the Board of Directors I say let OUR BOSS do what he does best, and join with us the Market Basket family 25,000 strong and enjoy the journey.
